NEW YORK Hormel Foods Corp. said strong sales of its grocery products such as Hormel Chili helped its net income rise 11 percent in the third quarter despite higher commodity costs. Here, CEO Jeff Ettinger discusses what products are doing well and not so well, particularly in terms of Spam and Dinty Moore, which had a weak quarter, in the uncertain economy. QUESTION: If the economy remains weak, will Spam and Dinty Moore pick up again what else will change? RESPONSE: Initially we saw very strong sales in Spam and Dinty Moore and our chili in the canned items. We've seen some backing off. But that's on year-over-year (comparisons).
